Each course contributes its grade points multiplied by its credit hours. The calculator sums these quality points across all courses, then divides by the total credit hours. Enter the two lists in the same order, separated by commas.
A fórmula
On the common 4.0 scale: A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0. Scales of 5.0 or 100 work identically — just enter points in your institution's scale.

Grades of 4.0, 3.7, 3.3, 4.0 in courses worth 3, 3, 2, 4 credits: quality points = 12 + 11.1 + 6.6 + 16 = 45.7, total credits = 12, so GPA = 45.7 ÷ 12 ≈ 3.81.

How is cumulative GPA different from semester GPA?
Semester GPA uses only that term's courses; cumulative GPA includes every credit you've ever taken. To compute cumulative GPA here, enter all courses across all semesters.
How much can one bad grade hurt?
It depends on the weight of everything else. With 100 credits at 3.8, one 3-credit F only drops you to about 3.69 — the more credits you accumulate, the harder your GPA is to move in either direction.
Do pass/fail courses count?
Usually not: a 'pass' earns credits but carries no grade points, so most institutions exclude it from GPA. Check your institution's policy, and simply leave such courses out of the lists.
