'Ideal weight' formulas were originally developed for medication dosing, and the Devine formula used here has become the most widely referenced of them. It gives a height- and sex-based reference point — a starting anchor, not a verdict.
工作原理
Enter your sex and height. The calculator applies the Devine formula, which starts from a base weight at 5 feet (152.4 cm) and adds a fixed increment for every inch above it.
公式
Height is converted from centimeters to inches (÷ 2.54) internally. For heights below 152.4 cm the formula extrapolates and becomes less meaningful.
计算示例
A man of 170 cm is 66.9 inches — 6.9 inches over 5 feet — giving an ideal weight of 50 + 2.3 × 6.9 ≈ 65.9 kg.
常见问题
Why does the result differ from other sites?
Several competing formulas exist — Devine, Robinson, Miller, Hamwi — differing by a few kilograms. None is 'correct'; they're different historical reference equations, so always note which formula a number comes from.
Is being above my 'ideal weight' unhealthy?
Not necessarily. The formula ignores muscle mass, frame size, and body composition entirely. A healthy weight is better judged as a range — the BMI 18.5–25 band spans roughly 15 kg for most heights.
What is this number actually useful for?
Clinically it's used for drug dosing and ventilator settings. Personally, treat it as one reference point alongside BMI, body-fat percentage, and how you actually feel and perform.
A formula-based reference, not a personal health target. Set weight goals with a qualified professional.
