The currency converter converts an amount from one supported currency to another using the reference exchange rate returned by the Frankfurter exchange-rate service. Currency codes and names are loaded from the service, while the calculated amount is produced locally from the amount you enter and the returned rate.
Enter an amount, choose the source currency and target currency, then select Convert. The calculator requests the reference rate for the selected pair and displays both the converted amount and the date associated with that rate. Recent rates for the same pair may be reused from the browser cache for up to one hour. Use the swap button to reverse the selected currencies.
The entered amount is the quantity of the source currency. The reference exchange rate is the number of target-currency units corresponding to one unit of the source currency. When the source and target currencies are identical, the calculator uses a rate of 1. Exchange rates are reference values and do not include a bank's spread, card markup, transfer fee, cash-exchange margin or other transaction costs.
If you enter 250 units of a currency and the returned reference rate is 0.80 units of the target currency for each source unit, the result is 250 × 0.80 = 200 target-currency units. The displayed rate date tells you which reference-rate date was used.
Use the result as a reference conversion only. Confirm the final rate, fees and settlement amount with the bank, card issuer, exchange office or transfer provider handling the actual transaction.
Not necessarily. The calculator uses reference exchange rates. Banks, payment cards, remittance providers and cash exchanges may add spreads, fees or their own pricing.
Reference-rate services may publish the latest available market or business-day rate rather than a new rate for every calendar day. The calculator displays the date returned with the rate.
A recently retrieved currency-pair rate may be cached in your browser for up to one hour to reduce repeated network requests. The currency list may also be stored locally in the browser.
