The dividend yield calculator estimates annual dividend income, dividend yield relative to the entered share price, market value of the position and a simple monthly average of annual dividends.

How it works

Enter the number of shares, current or reference share price and annual dividend per share. Annual dividends equal shares multiplied by dividend per share, while yield divides dividend per share by share price.

The formula

Annual dividends = shares × dividend per share. Dividend yield (%) = dividend per share ÷ share price × 100. Market value = shares × share price. Monthly average = annual dividends ÷ 12.

Share quantity may be zero or positive, share price must be greater than zero and dividend per share cannot be negative. The monthly figure is only the annual total divided by 12; it does not imply that dividends are actually paid monthly.

Worked example

1,000 shares at a price of 30 with annual dividend of 1.5 per share produce annual dividends of 1,500, a 5% yield, market value of 30,000 and a monthly arithmetic average of 125.

Dividend yield is one descriptive metric, not a forecast of total return or a recommendation to buy a security.

Frequently asked questions

Is dividend yield guaranteed to continue?

No. The calculator uses the dividend entered. Future distributions can change, be reduced or stop.

Is the monthly average an expected monthly payment?

No. It is annual dividends divided by 12 for comparison only. Actual payment frequency depends on the issuer.

Does dividend yield include capital gains or losses?

No. It compares the entered dividend per share with the entered share price and excludes price changes.
